Palsgaard attending UNDP’s SDG Accelerator VIP event

Global aims

SDG Accelerator is a UNDP programme aiming to accelerate business solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The programme is funded by The Danish Industry Foundation and will be tested in Denmark in 2018 and 2019 with 30 small and medium-sized industrial companies. Subsequently, the aim is to roll the programme out across Scandinavia before taking it global.

Palsgaard signed up for the programme in late 2017, seeing it as a good fit for the company’s stellar record in sustainability (the emulsifier manufacturer is the first large ingredients producer to become carbon-neutral for the vast majority of its production, for example, and also the first to offer a full product range of emulsifiers produced using 100% RSPO certified sustainable, segregated palm oil.

Since that time, the company has spent considerable time in discussions with the UNDP and the other participants in the SDG Accelerator programme.

A better future

Claus Hviid Christensen, CEO of Palsgaard’s independent innovation company, Nexus A/S, is one of the top managers attending the event. And he is optimistic about the programme’s prospects: “This is a next-step opportunity to share ideas with the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), the Danish Industry Foundation, advisory board members and the participating companies to build a better future for everyone through SDG Accelerator,” he comments.

“On the one hand, this is certainly a positive initiative that can help to drive specific developments in our emulsifier technology and its application to solving the world’s pressing issues,” he says. “And on the other, the SDG Accelerator programme helps to generate even more excitement within and outside our company around its on-going sustainability efforts.”

Unique opportunity

The SDG Accelerator is a two-year programme that offers participating companies a unique opportunity for developing innovative solutions with a significant business potential and impact on the SDGs. Their work will be communicated to inspire other companies and make visible how the new global agenda for sustainable development can be operationalised in a business context, creating business benefits and impact on the SDGs.
